ST. CHARLES MUNICIPAL PROJECTS
St. Charles, Illinois
Municipal Center
DO worked with the City of St. Charles to create a master plan for their long-term facility needs and to evaluate whether their existing facilities could meet those needs. The Municipal Center is made up of a group of historically significant buildings ranging from the turn of the century which have been connected over time and are located at the center of town on the Fox River. The design and construction process took approximately two and a half years to complete. In keeping with the master plan, key community services and historic assets were retained in the downtown area.
Public Works Facility
Phase 1 of the major renovation and addition to the St. Charles Public Works facility was completed in September 2006. Design Organization, City of St. Charles staff and Berglund Construction worked as a team for eighteen months to bring the construction of the first phase to a successful completion. The 62,500 square foot addition will provide much needed space for administration, inventory control, and fleet maintenance to accommodate growth for services to the City of St. Charles.
Fire Station No. 1 Century Station
On September 10, 2009, The City of St. Charles Fire Department Administration and the Fire Prevention Department dedicated the newly renovated Century Station building and three bay apparatus addition on First Avenue. DO completed the program, design, construction documents and construction observation to renovate the Century Station for living quarters and administration also adding a one-story, three bay apparatus structure to the south. DO work closely with and gathered recommendations from the Fire Department’s Staff, Century Corners Merchants and City of St. Charles’ Historic Commission. The result by the DO project team was development of a turn-of-the-century exterior architectural design that blended a new structure with the existing 19th Century architecture within St Charles’ Historic District. Brick detailing, cast stone accents, window fenestration, and tower elements incorporated into the addition’s exterior façade were influenced by the existing architecture represented in the District.
