After lengthy negotiations, the City of Valparaiso’s efforts to acquire the old Post Office building for their unique new City Hall finally bore fruit. The 1926 Federal style building was in excellent condition and lent itself well to the image of a city hall.
Exterior work included minor limestone and masonry tuck-pointing, new windows, new roof and handicap access. The interior was totally renovated to meet city requirements for the mayor, council chambers, engineer’s office, clerk’s office, building commissioner and city planner.
DO began working with Valparaiso again in 2005 to create a master plan for redevelopment of City Hall.
