White Lodging Services decided to locate their corporate jets at the Gary-Chicago International Airport where the CEO determined a close proximity to their corporate headquarters and convenient access in and out of the airport facility to be an easy decision to develop the facility there.
DO had worked with White Lodging Services on the renovation of 5 Fairfield Inns in 2006 and carried the relationship into 2007 by working with White Lodging project management to complete the design and construction of the 20,000 square foot hangar to accommodate the existing and new corporate fleet. Construction, completed in the spring of 2007 established the first new corporate hangar built at the international airport in several years. The design integrated the need for a permanent storage facility for the expanding corporate fleet and maintenance services with corporate offices for the pilots and support spaces for visiting clientele.
The DO team developed an exterior image appropriate to the stature of the corporation in the community to an otherwise non-descript pre-engineered hangar building. The interiors incorporated an aeronautical theme with a two story entry lobby and dynamic views from the office and conference room areas overlooking the hangar and jets being prepared for flight.
