The increasing need for space created one of the latest opportunities for DO to implement the new work environment concept at the 200 Building on BP’s Naperville campus.
Again, DO teamed with Johnson Controls, J.C. Anderson and Interior Investments to transform 23,000 square feet on two floors to be used for call center activities and management of transportation logistic activities. The design philosophy included creating an open work environment, maximizing formal and informal collaboration spaces to encourage communication, providing natural light and daylight views, and as always, integration of BP's sustainable design philosophy. Existing ceiling tiles and wood doors were salvaged and reused. Recycled materials included carpet, rubber flooring, metal studs, drywall, furniture system components and fabrics. An energy-efficient indirect lighting system with occupancy sensors improved light quality and energy conservation.
Technology integration throughout the space encourages a “work where you are” concept integrating the use of wireless phones and data connections installed in all formal and informal collaboration and conferencing areas. The digital cafe, a great staff amenity, not only creates an area to work away from your desk, but provides a place for informal meetings. In addition, visitors now have an area they can “touchdown” to work temporarily.
